FOR THE past 55 years, a memorial service has been held in Hiroshima, Japan, every Aug 6 to commemorate the death of a Malaysian student who was killed in the world's first atomic bomb explosion.
The solemn ceremony early this month was conducted by a temple priest, followed by a recital of the ayat yassin by three Malaysian Muslims who are students of Hiroshima University.
It was a memorial service of their senior, Nik Yusof Nik Ali, one of two Malaysians who were killed by the deadly atomic bomb that was dropped in Hiroshima at 8.15am on Aug 6, 1945. The exact date of Nik Yusof's death could not be ascertained even until today, although it was believed to be Aug 6 or 7.
However, on his tombstone was inscribed, "Nik Yusof Nik Ali'' and below his name, "passed away August 6, 1945.''
The uncertainty is due to the confusion that ensued after the bombing when fire engulfed the city, leaving gory scenes of burnt bodies, of humans walking aimlessly with peeled skin hanging from the tip of their fingers. Nik Yusof went missing from the dormitory soon after the bombing.
The only fact that could be ascertained from documents or books available in Japan was that he did not die immediately after the bombing. His junior in the university, Abdul Razak Abdul Hamid, met him before he went missing.
Abdul Razak, now 75, was a former Japanese Language lecturer at Universiti ITM.
He might have died at Raku-Raku-En station in the suburb of Itsukaichi, 11km from his dormitory. Nik Yusof was one of 13 students from Malaya who were selected for further studies in Japan under the Special Foreign Students from South-East Asia programme in 1943. He was among the first batch of nine Malayan students.
Nik Yusof, who hailed from Kota Baru, Kelantan, was killed just two months prior to his 20th birthday.
He died in a painful and cruel way, ignorant of the fact that he had been exposed to the radiation.
Nik Yusof's coursemate, Abdul Razak, confirmed that Yusof was not hurt externally after the bombing, unlike many who were turned into human fireballs or burnt alive under wrecked buildings when fire swept through the city.
Abdul Razak recounted how he met Nik Yusof on the way to their dormitory after the bombing.
"Razak, I am fine. Hurry up, go back to the dormitory and help our friends!'' Nik Yusof had told him.
Abdul Razak was invited by the Hiroshima International Centre on the 50th anniversary of the atomic bomb in 1995, along with five other students under the programme then, to give a talk and relate their experiences during the bombing. The talks were documented in a report by the organiser.
The report further quoted Abdul Razak as saying that Nik Yusof later walked towards the city centre with their dormitory warden, Professor Nagahara Toshio.
The following day, when Nik Yusof did not return to campus, Abdul Razak went to look for him in a hospital, accompanied by a coursemate.
At the hospital they saw more gory scenes: decomposing corpses, scorched bodies, patients with swollen faces and bodies, their hair falling out.
On their way back to the campus they came across the body of Professor Nagahara who was seen with Nik Yusof earlier. Nagahara was found dead on Meiji bridge, his face swollen beyond recognition. They recognised the professor from the buckle of his belt.
They began to worry if Nik Yusof had met a similar fate.
An eyewitness who was living across the dormitory saw Nik Yusof with his face, hands and feet badly burnt--one of the most common symptoms of radiation.
The eyewitness's testimony was recorded in a book written by Egami Yoshirou entitled, A Research on the Special Foreign Students Invited from South-East Asia.
Egami is currently principal of a private high school in Kyushu. He was a former officer at Hiroshima University.
According to Egami, a foreign student believed to be Nik Yusof was seen at Raku-Raku-En station on Aug 7 by Hanaoka Toshio who was living near the dormitory.
"Please give me some water,'' pleaded Nik Yusof to Hanaoka who was there to take his injured brother for treatment. Nik Yusof's face was swollen and had turned purple-black.
Hanaoka gave him water and some words of encouragement, and left.
Later that day, staff from the Itsukaichi town government brought three boxes of unclaimed cremated ashes to Hoshizuki Tokito, chief priest of Kouzen temple. One of the boxes had Nik Yusof's name on it.
Tokito buried Nik Yusof's ashes in the temple's cemetery.
Kitagawa Katsuko, 62, whom the writer met at the memorial service, remembers Nik Yusof as a quiet man of small built.
Kitagawa came to know Nik Yusof through her mother who was caretaker of the dormitory where Nik Yusof stayed. Kitagawa herself narrowly escaped death when she was buried under heaps of rubble following the bombing.
Nik Yusof's grave has since been taken care of by the Kouzen temple. The temple's chief priest then had taken great effort to build an Islamic grave for Nik Yusof.
"Nobody knew how an Islamic grave looked like then,'' said Dr Konno Yoshinobu, professor emeritus at Hiroshima University and professor of Hiroshima Jogakuin University.
"The chief priest travelled to Kyoto and Aoyama in Tokyo where there were foreign graves, to look for a model of an Islamic grave to build for Nik Yusof,'' said Konno who has been helping to organise Nik Yusof's memorial service since 1986.
Nik Yusof's grave was completed in 1964. It was believed to have cost about 200,000 yen (about RM7,000) then, which is equivalent to a few million yen or about RM100,000 now. The money came from the government and from donations.
While Nik Yusof's suffering was shortlived, his varsity mate Syed Omar Mohamad Alsagoff only started to feel the effects of the radiation three weeks later.
While waiting for a train to Tokyo on his sojourn back to Malaya, Syed Omar complained of profuse perspiration and chills despite the hot weather. He had to stay back and was admitted into a hospital in Kyoto.
Little was known about the effects of atomic radiation then. Syed Omar's doctor, Hamajima Yoshihiro, donated his own blood in a bid to save the 19-year-old lad from Johor Baru.
Syed Omar had great difficulty swallowing anything. He died 10 days later on Sept 4. A memorial service for him is held in Kyoto on the first Sunday of September every year.
According to Kitagawa and Konno, the family of Syed Omar had visited his grave a few times since then.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his wife Datin Seri Dr Siti Hasmah Ali visited Syed Omar's grave during an unofficial visit to Japan in April 1991.
The third Malaysian under the programme who died in the war was Syed Mansoor from Penang. Syed Mansoor went to Japan in 1943. A medical student of Kumamoto Medical University, Syed Mansoor was admitted into the university's hospital for tuberculosis. The hospital was bombed, but Syed Mansoor was rescued. However, he succumbed to his illness on Dec 12, 1946. He was 24.
Japanese acquaintances of the deceased or their children have been holding memorial services for the three Malaysians until today.

Pertolongan, rezeki atau bencana??
Assalamualaikum dan Bismillahirahmanirahim..
Topic ini mmg dah lama saya nak citer tapi tak de masa... actually nak cite masa adik Boo kita ni bercakap tentang incident dia di MPH. Dia cite pasal people been asking her questions n all...
tapi when i think again... pertolongan ni.. rezeki or bencana...
to many people is bencana sbb kita ada tolong pastu lambat sampai la... ada kita tolong n tgk2 org tu perompak la... apa la..
but when i think again.. maybe rezeki kot?
why i said Rezeki... well... mcm ni...
Always bila ada hari yg unique mesti ada la org i kena tolong.. of course bila tolong tu adalah dgn hati yg Ikhlas.. not dgn sbb nak ganjaran ke apa...
let me give u an example i can remember... (byk sgt ni)
masa my 1st Japan GT... masa tu ada org dgn kereta corolla dia minta tolong untuk tolak so help him tolak sampai kereta start...
sekali tu masa dating dgn my last xgf (kalau u read this, i think u will remember kan?) .. b4 jumpa dia.. i was at KL sentral tgk waktu awek GT perform.. so masa tu i kena la pergi ke Menara Telekom sbb she akan habis interview dia tu.. tau la interview dia kan lama... so.. masa i pergi tu i tolong satu org Buta ni.. so masa tolong i was amazed how he can remembered the road.. tau kan org buta ni tak leh nampak tapi mereka tau bahawa mereka berdiri sebelum yellow line.. so ada la cakap2 n help him masuk LRT... rezeki gak kan?? he told me good luck n have fun masa jumpa kwn tu.. dia tak tau i gi dating...
another one was.. some places tak ingat di mana.. people asking me for direction, i wil tell them.. this happens mostly in LRT.. or bukit bintang.. ada sekali tau.. ada org ni dia ingat card LRT mcm "Touch n Go".. org tu try n rasa pelik pastu ada ramai org lak belakang dia.. pesal tak nak tolong ni i fikir.. so then i went to the man, i told him.. "minta maaf itu bukan card touch n go, ini card LRT masukkan card ini dan ambil, itu je,".. he thanked me pastu... n then mula la org malu dgn sikap saya ni.. pergi ke org tu tanya "encik nak ke mana? tau ke kemana encik nak pergi?"
cis...
ok satu ni.. case ni.. masa tu case penculikan mmg in red alert masa tu.. i wont tell names of mangsa di culik (polis kita lak duk pikir pasal politic n liwat je, sorry my bad).. so masa tu ada org ni dgn anak2 berumur 8 kot.. anak2 dia nakal.. also dia nak air ke something.. also wife dia panggil minta tolong n tau la.. dgr2 mereka ni mcm foreigner (actually org Sabah) n pada masa tu my eyes pada anak dia yg hyper tu sbb tau la nanti kena culik faham2 la.. we dont want another kidnapping again.. ok sbb org ni ada prob so i told him in that saya jaga line dia.. so he thanx me n then he pun buat kerja n come back to the lane.. so i tanya la.. dari mana.. he pun said Sabah.. ok.. lagipun in my life tak pernah tgk org Sabah cakap mcm tu.. so lepas tolong dia... i ada tanya nak tolong tak.. he said tak pe.. tapi lepas i masuk lane.. this happens... tangga electric tu ada pantat gi vandalise pergi offkan benda tu.. pastu org Sabah tu dgn pram dah la dgn byk barang so i waited for him at the door.. btw masa tu guard yg ada key nak on the tangga electric pun tak kisah.. dah la benda tu depan dia... so i tunggu n then tell the sabah man.. sorry tangga rosak, let me give u a hand... so tolong la dia... org Sabah tu was happy la.. ada org tolong.. n then dia ada tanya i nak pergi mana.. i told him sorry i nak balik kelana jaya.. dia nak pergi kampung baru lak...
Another one was at UPM KTM kot... masa tu.. ada budak Cina tak tau guna public transport (at least better than laki yg iklan arak tu yg berlakon tin gei bin.. pergi stop taxi mcm nak bunuh diri).. so dia tanya.. yg mana ticket yg suitable??
Single or Return.. dia confuse.. i kata la.. single means one way.. n return means u datang balik.. bagi tau la.. datang tak sini again.. dia kata tak.. so beli la single.. n then terima kasih la.. btw this guy ni mcm leh kata gangster gak la.. sbb ada signal thanx which i know la n also did the signal.. sbb saya kwn dgn kongsi gelap gak itu pun kwn sbb tolong mereka dgn maths... bukan apa... mmg i suka buat maths pun..
Izzah !!!!! kenapa tak tanya me pasal maths !!!
Mana lagi tolong... ada byk la... terlampau byk sampai tak tau... adeh..
cakap pasal i tolong tadi kan... i terpikir gak lepas baca minah N****** dgn kwn dia name T** I**** punya blog tu.. dia cakap pasal kaum lagi ni jahat la.. kotor la.. tak leh tolong mereka la sbb aurat la.. yg peliknya.. adakah dlm Islam kita di ajar untuk tidak menolong n membantu org even org tu Jiran kita ?? atau kaum lain.. pesal nak rasict sgt ni... masa i tolong org sabah tu... bukan sbb dia org luar ke apa.. it is bcoz he needs help.. nak tolong org ikut kaum ?? plz la... itu bodoh namenya... bila ada org yg kesusahan kita menolong mereka dgn ikhlas.. saya pelik bila minah N n her fren tu.. cakap mcm tu...
so apa apa pun.. kena tolong n ikhlas k !!

Hati-hati dgn makanan Jepun (with my opinion)
taken from adrysabry.com
topic Hati-hati dgn makanan Jepun
for all of u... fans of Japanese food...
=========================================
1. Tempura & Noodle Sauce - mengandungi mirin dan alkohol.
2. Teriyaki Marinade - Mengandungi Wain
3. Naturally Brewes Soy Sauce - Mengandungi wain.
4. Naturally Brewed Premium Soy Sauce - Mengandungi wain.
5. Teriyaki Marinade (Thick) for barbecue& Grill - Bersih, tiada alkohol, wain, mirin dan sake.
6. Special Fragrance Soy Sauce Asean Taste - Bersih, tiada alkohol, wain, mirin dan sake.

Kalau ada …alhamdulillah, tak perlu was was.
(HR Bukhari & Muslim).
Kalau sesapa ada pendapat sila.. kita buka perbincangan.
Wallahualam.

to me.. kalau nak beli Japanese food... tgk pemilik dia.. org Islam ke tak??
dia mesti tau halal n haram... even pekerja mereka.. especially yg Islam..
apa i sedar byk kedai makanan Jepun yg Halal n Islam yg tak laku... yg laku adalah yg haram even restoran Jepun yg pekerja melayu tapi pekerja melayu mereka serve arak...
Alhamdulillah kebanyakan kedai Jepun yg i makan adalah Halal.. but one prob la.. JAKIM ni still lazy to verify kedai yg HALAL... n then bila dah terbukti tak halal, baru la bertindak la... apa la... makes me hate Jakim more like what they did to my fren di UiTM !!
JAKIM just do ur job k !!!!!

Adapun daerah larangan Allah adalah apa yang diharamkan-Nya.” (HR Bukhari & Muslim).
Kalau sesapa ada pendapat sila.. kita buka perbincangan.

JOLIET, Ill. -- As far as anniversaries go, it's a modest one.
But you can't get to 10 -- or even two -- before you get the first one out of the way. And soon after that people quit counting until you're old and the anniversary becomes an afterthought at best, a forgotten memory at worst.
No, we're not talking marriage here. Not the usual kind anyway.
We're talking the one-year anniversary of the official birth of Stewart-Haas Racing, which was announced at Chicagoland Speedway last July. It was then that Tony Stewart made it official: he was leaving Joe Gibbs Racing, and his career merely as a driver in the Sprint Cup Series, to become owner/driver at the newly formed Stewart-Haas organization.
No one really knew what to expect. But one year into his new deal, Stewart's racing operation is sporting the look of one that will have a long and very successful run in the sport.
"A year ago, I was about half scared to death," Stewart admitted as he prepared for Sunday's LifeLock.com 400 at Chicagoland. "Obviously I had made a decision that was definitely a life-changing and a different career-path decision for sure."
Stewart said he wasn't certain at the time what it would all mean. He added that he has been pleasantly surprised.
"It was hard to anticipate what exactly the reality of the changes were going to be and what the rules were going to be," Stewart said. "We thought we had an idea of what it was going to be like and it hasn't disappointed us, but it's been smoother than I thought it was going to be.
"At that time a year ago, we didn't have a competition director, we hadn't hired a crew chief. We had a lot of variables that were unknown at that point. Once we got these key people in place, it made my job a lot easier and it's been a lot smoother than I thought it would be at this point."
It has been so smooth that it has been nothing short of remarkable. Stewart hired Bobby Hutchens as competition director and Darian Grubb to be the crew chief of his No. 14 Chevrolet, and eventually hired Ryan Newman to drive the other Stewart-Haas car, the No. 39, with Tony Gibson as Newman's crew chief.
Heading into Sunday's event, Stewart is coming off his second points win of the season last Saturday at Daytona (he also won $1 million by capturing the non-points All-Star Race at Charlotte in May). Stewart remains entrenched in first in the point standings, and Newman is seventh. Both appear to be in great position to be among the 12 drivers who will make the Chase.
No one expected Stewart-Haas Racing to be this successful, this fast. Not even Stewart.
"Like I've said, we've exceeded our expectations to this point," Stewart said. "Not that we really set goals and said this is where we want to be at any stage of it, but I think this is much higher than we possibly could have expected it to be at this point in the season."
Then again, maybe it should not be so much of a surprise. Newman pointed out that the groundwork for success appeared to have been laid even before the announcement last July on the outskirts of Chicago. He was referring to the fact that many of the resources the team now relies on were already in place at Haas/CNC Racing, which essentially didn't so much as "merge" with Stewart as simply hand Stewart half of the company and get out of his way.
"We have to remember that Gene Haas did a great job laying the groundwork and laying the foundation in more ways than one for what we have right now," Newman said. "Tony Stewart and his group have done a great job of moving in different people -- and as we have stated before, people are making the difference.
"In general, it would be a staggering accomplishment for either of us just to be in the Chase. Part of the goal was for both cars to be in the Chase. If we can make that happen, it's a staggering accomplishment, in my opinion."
Last year in Chicago, Newman was not yet part of the Stewart-Haas team. Although he had b een widely rumored as Stewart's top choice as driver of the second Stewart-Haas car, it wouldn't be until later in the month that they finalized the deal.
"I was really still working on my situation, still trying to figure out what I was going to do," Newman said. "I was aware before some other people were about Tony making this announcement one year ago. I kind of knew who was dealing. I just didn't know what the cards were going to be."
Newman eventually decided to leave the No. 12 Dodge he had driven for Penske Racing for seven full-time seasons to join Stewart in his new venture.
"I folded one hand and picked up another," Newman said.
Like a shrewd poker player, it appears he made the right decision. The same could be said for Stewart.
But one year ago, he wasn't so sure of himself.
"This was a big weekend for us a year ago. I don't think any of us would have predicted that a year from then and today that we would be here leading the point standings and have three wins this season," Stewart said. "I'm very excited about it. It's been a long road. It's been a long year, but one that's been very gratifying and a lot of fun at the same time with a lot of work."
